Finding Yourself in the Day to Day Grind

There is so much background noise when you have trauma. It makes it hard to concentrate on the present albeit a conversation at work, with your partner or even understanding your own needs and wants in the moment.
Trauma makes it hard when there are negative thoughts, flashbacks, feeling stuck with low motivation and fatigue of having to juggle the background noise and the present day tasks. It is a hard start and challenging to figure out where to put your attention to next. These are quite common feelings when you are going through a difficult life transition, going through a difficult loss or even trying to find yourself after going through a traumatic event (natural disaster, death in the family, bullying and rejection). This is the background noise that makes it hard to know where to start and that can consume your energy.
Centering yourself with simple asks of yourself is necessary to help settle your nervous system, especially, if you have just experienced an adverse event. Your body and emotions can only handle so much because it is housing a lot of background noise. If you ask yourself to organize only take a portion of it and do it. If you ask yourself to finish a project, just a vision or skeletal outline. If you need to clean the house, take a room instead of the entire home. Demand what your body can handle at any given moment because your mental health is connected with your physical body. Do not over exhaust it or let it get used to working through hypervigilance of getting things done where you are in a constant plane of fight or flight. It gets harder to know how to relax if the body gets used to the hypervigilance. Slow down in as much as you can.
Take some time to sit with your thoughts and find yourself in the moment.
You matter and your are worth the time. Take good care of you.
